Abstract：In today’s world, the great changes unseen in a century are accelerating. While the traditional international order is showing signs of disorder, failure and imbalance, the Global South is emerging as a key force driving the multi-polarization of the world landscape.Against this grand backdrop, the BRICS countries have achieved a historic expansion, setting off a BRICS craze worldwide. The crisis of the liberal order and the collective rise of the Global South jointly constitute the historical background of the “greater BRICS cooperation”, reflecting its characteristics of timing, legitimacy and necessity.As the “first echelon” of the Global South, the “greater BRICS” is the “pioneer” of economic development, the “vanguard” for promoting reforms, and the “backbone” for uniting hearts and minds in the Global South, thus providing a material foundation, institutional guarantee and value guidance for the Global South to promote the transformation and improvement of the international political and economic order.Overall, the “greater BRICS cooperation” has brought about multiple positive effects on the transformation of the international order, but it also faces a series of challenges from internal and external constraints. How to ensure the security, effectiveness and sustainability of the “greater BRICS cooperation” will be the focus of theoretical and policy research in the period to come.
